6 Tips for printing Business Cards

Follow our tips below to make the perfect business card that leaves a lasting impression!

By Megan | 24 September 2018
When it comes to networking, nothing is more important than a well designed business card. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to print your business cards, but designing the right card is vital to make the first impression count. From small businesses to retailers and global organisations, a business card can do a lot for your brand and your connections. If you haven’t got a card that you can hand out to potential customers or clients, you’re missing out on a huge marketing opportunity. Follow our tips below to create business cards that leave a lasting impression.

  1. You should ask yourself; “How does my profession influence my business card?” This can be reflected in the business card size, shape, paper type and finish. You will be able to make decisions from all available options when designing your cards. These factors could also influence how you decide on the right finish, since ‘spot UV’ can help emphasise your logo by adding a glossy coating, while keeping your business cards uncoated gives recipients the ability to note down any additional details that come up in conversation.

  2. With many different options to order and print business cards, from paper type, to price and quality options, you have great freedom to design your ideal card. However, since business cards can be a means of marketing, it is fundamental to make them consistent with your brand design. Create business cards with your slogan, business logo and website link on them. Considering the sizes and font is a must; colours or a particular finish could diminish the contrast, yet is crucial that your card is legible.

  3. Add your full name and job title. You may want to adjust this depending on how you prefer to be addressed. Include relevant contact information such as your email, landline and possibly even your mobile. In some cases, your physical address or social media handles may also be applicable.

  4. Doubting about going for single sided or double sided business cards? Use both sides. The back side of your business card is a good way for adding value and extending your sales pitch. It's an excellent way to keep your business cards in the hands of potential clients and customers longer and add a call to action. You could also leave your options open by keeping the back blank. This way, you can write a personal message or some extra contact details to make a deeper connection and help separate you from the whole stack of other cards they may receive.

  5. Don’t forget about your bleed area: Unless the background of your business card is white you’ll need to include a bleed area. It’s important to have a bleed area of 3 mm around all edges of your design. Make sure colours, background pictures and layouts extend into the bleed area so as to avoid leaving white lines as a result of cutting tolerances.

  6. No design? No problem! You can choose from over 1,000 free templates and design your business cards in our online design editor. Using a business card template makes it’s easy to design. Simply add your logo, contact information and colours and you're done!
